This tour is the perfect solution for travelers who aren’t booking a multi-day Nile Cruise but still want that iconic river experience. It combines a visit to one of Egypt’s best-preserved temples with a relaxing afternoon sailing and dining on the water. The Dendera Temple & Nile Boat Lunch Tour offers the perfect balance of history and relaxation, letting you see the monuments in the morning and drift along the river in the afternoon.
Morning: The Temple of the Goddess We drive north through the lush Egyptian countryside to the city of Qena to visit the Temple of Dendera. Dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of joy, music, and love, this temple is a masterpiece of preservation. You will walk through the massive Hypostyle Hall with its famous blue astronomical ceiling, which retains its original color. Uniquely, you will then climb the ancient stairs to the roof to see the "Dendera Zodiac" and enjoy panoramic views of the desert meeting the city. Your guide will also take you underground into the narrow, mysterious crypts to see the famous "Dendera Lightbulb" reliefs.
Afternoon: Cruising the Nile Upon returning to Luxor, the second half of your Dendera Temple & Nile Boat Lunch Tour begins. We drive straight to the dock and board your private motorboat. As the lines are cast off, a delicious lunch is served on deck. You will spend the afternoon sailing south against the current, watching the landscape shift from city skyline to green farmland and grazing buffalo. We make a stop at Banana Island, a quiet plantation on the river. Here, you can stretch your legs, walk among the banana and mango trees, and enjoy some fresh fruit and Egyptian tea before sailing back to the city at sunset.
Q: Is there a bathroom on the boat? A: Yes, the private motorboats we use are equipped with a clean toilet and a shaded sundeck.
Q: Can we swim in the Nile? A: We generally do not recommend swimming near the city or Banana Island due to boat traffic. If you wish to swim, please let us know in advance so we can sail to a cleaner, designated spot further upstream.
